On June 28, 2022, the D.C. Council passed piece of temporary emergency legislation that allows D.C. residents age 21 and older to “self-certify” that they are using cannabis for medical purposes. An important note here — as an emergency measure the bill did not require a second vote by the Council or approval from Congress and will expire in September 90 days after taking effect. Everyone who self-certifies will be automatically registered as a medical cannabis patient and processing fees are waived until August. D.C. residents interested in becoming a medical cannabis patients can “self-certify” using ABRA’s online registration portal and select “Self-Certification” under “Certification Type” and should receive a registration card in the mail within 7 days.
